چکیده

1 The most common metric for evaluating the performance of an optical communications system is the symbol error probability (SEP) versus the received optical power. In circuit-like optical systems employing binary transmission such as WDM, this SEP takes the form of the Bit Error Rate (BER) which is, in general, relatively constant. However, when considering an asynchronous multiple access Optical CDMA (OCDMA) system, the BER is not constant. Since users may enter/exit the network without coordination, the instantaneous SEP of every user can be affected by the transmissions of other users because of the non-zero cross-correlation of optical spreading codes. Therefore, the SEP of an asynchronous OCDMA system becomes time-varying and statistical in nature. In this paper, we determine how to assess the performance of such a system in terms of Average SEP (ASEP) and outage probability. When the analytical description of a problem is not available and the performance can be assessed only via simulations, we also give guidelines on how to calculate the required number of trials necessary to estimate the ASEP with a certain confidence interval.

Bit Error Performance for Asynchronous Ds Cdma Systems Over Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channels (RESEARCH NOTE)

In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the use of CDMA in mobile communications. Bit error rate is one of the most important parameters in the evaluation of CDMA systems. In this paper, we develop a technique to find an accurate approximation to the probability of bit error for asynchronous direct–sequence code division multiple–access (DS/CDMA) systems by modeling the multipl...

Analysis of Indoor Wireless Infrared Optical CDMA LAN Using Prime Codes

-In wireless optical system, CDMA suits well for high bit rate systems where good security is needed and mobility is not important. It would be economical when compared to radio frequency band and much safer since there is no electromagnetic effect. Infrared systems are used for its widest bandwidth and are not affected by radio transmission. The advantage of the prime code and the security iss...

Chip-Level Detection in Optical Code Division Multiple Access

A new detector for optical code-division multipleaccess (CDMA) communication systems is proposed. This detector is called the chip-level receiver. Both ON–OFF keying (OOK) and pulse-position modulation (PPM) schemes, that utilize this receiver, are investigated in this paper. For OOK, an exact bit error rate is evaluated taking into account the effect of both multiple-user interference and rece...

Direct Detection Optical Overlapping PPM-CDMA Communication Systems with Double Optical Hardlimiters

Direct detection optical code-division multipleaccess (CDMA) communication systems involving overlapping pulse-position modulation (OPPM) is considered. Double optical hardlimiters placed before and after the correlator at the receiver side is proposed for this system. The performance (in terms of the bit error probability) of this system is evaluated taking into account the effect of both the ...
